This is a self-help gentle hypnotherapy recording for young children approximately 5-9 years who suffer from either vocal or motor tics, or both. Gentle & relaxing, it helps them release a build-up of tension and feel calmer and may help them feel more in control of sounds and movements. Tics vary in severity; transient tics in young people very often disappear quickly and easily with use of the recording, while long standing- chronic tics may take longer or, in some cases, not respond to the approach. Even in these cases however there is usually an improvement in feelings of a calm, relaxed and confident mind set.

 Play the recording at bedtime

Bedtime listening allows deep relaxation and then drifting off to sleep at the end. However, if falling asleep happens more or less immediately, choose to listen at a quiet time earlier on, before or as well as, at bedtime. The recording should be in addition to, rather than instead of, any usual bedtime rituals or stories so that they don’t feel deprived in any way.

Imaginative framework

Children are encouraged to relax comfortably and enjoy a daydream because their brains work best when they are in a nice day-dreamy state. In order to relax them and engage their imagination they are first asked to imagine breathing in a nice happy colour and imagine breathing out any colours of worries or sad thoughts. They imagine walking into a special control room and find a big picture of themselves on a big screen like a big iPad / computer / television. Using a remote control they make the image move or make sounds and then learn how to turn the sounds down and make the movements still. It’s a way of getting mind and body to work in harmony using imagery and visualization.

 Successful approach

This kind of approach is completely natural and safe. Research shows that when a child first acts out each positive step in their imagination, it dramatically increases the likelihood of their success in the real world. This CD contains powerful suggestions for boosting confidence and self-esteem. The language and topics used are carefully crafted to appeal to young children. NB Remember that some children may seem more or less mature than their chronological age.
